Bad Jews has returned to London Theatre after two record-breaking sessions at the West End.
The play Bad Jews by Joshua Harmon is a dark comedy. Harmon was inspired to write the play after attending a service when Holocaust survivors' grandchildren were invited to speak at the event. Jon Pashley directs the play.
The night after their grandfather's burial, three cousins have a verbal (and sometimes non-verbal!) altercation that starts out over a family heirloom but soon turns into a dispute about their faiths, interfaith romances, and even accusations about cultural assimilation fly around. In one corner of the crowded Manhattan apartment stands Daphna Feygenbaum, a feisty, self-assured, and stubborn "Real Jew”. Her cousin Liam, a secular and entitled young man who is accompanied by his sweetheart Melody (a non-Jew), is in the other corner. Liam's brother, Jonah, is caught in the middle and attempts to stay out of it. A brutal and hilarious struggle over family, faith, and legacy erupts when their beloved grandfather leaves the precious heirloom behind.
