After Farr's play, Britannia Waves the Rules (Royal Exchange Manchester) won the Bruntwood Prize. His piece The Quiet House, which premiered at Birmingham Rep and Park Theatre, was directed by the acclaimed Tessa Walker. Tessa Walker, who previously worked on the productions of Ravenscourt, Big Big Sky, and The Glad Game Downstairs, is bringing her second collaboration with Gareth Farr to the stage. Storyline
In spite of the fact that it seems counterintuitive, they complement one another well. Paul is quiet and cautious, and he is also concealing a great deal of grief at the death of his father. Joanne is feisty and protective, and she is a survivor. On the other hand, they become closer through the great dishes he prepares in the kitchen and the pleasure he gets from them. They find themselves in a downward financial spiral when the hotel where they work closes. This spiral threatens to ruin not just their ambitions for a successful cookbook, restaurant, and hopes for the future.
