Storyline
We would be hard-pressed to name a more iconic summer romance story than that of Baby and Johnny’s passion-infused tale in Dirty Dancing. The musical follows a 17-year-old “Baby” Houseman on holiday with her family, when she discovers a freeing world of dance, entirely different from the kind she’s known before. Through her acquaintance with the resort’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle, Baby perseveres to understand herself, and the world outside her bubble of comfort. Although at its surface, Dirty Dancing can be described as a romantic tale peppered with steamy dance sequences against a winning soundtrack - the story is, at its core, a study of the perseverance of passion.
