Akram Khan, the multi-award-winning artist, has received recognition for his work throughout his career, including the Laurence Olivier Awards, an MBE (2005) for dance, and honorary degrees from several prestigious universities. He has also produced his independent pieces. Following Giselle and Dust, Creature marks Akram Khan's third project with English National Ballet, a Sadler's Wells Associate Company. Lighting designer Michael Hulls, composer and sound designer Vincenzo Lamagna, Academy Award-winning designer Tim Yip, and dramaturg Ruth Little make up Creature's remarkable creative team. The score is performed live by the English National Ballet Philharmonic.
Storyline
The Creature is put to the test for his ability to tolerate everything that people would not want to, such as extreme cold, total isolation, and a lack of a sense of belonging, all of which are thought to be necessary for mankind's intended colonisation of the "last frontiers" on Earth and beyond. The Creature is tested to its limits as it battles the harsh Arctic and the empty walls of a derelict research outpost. Creature is a tale of an outsider and a search for connection.
