Based on the famous writer Charles Dickens’ iconic novel of the same name, Great Expectations is a solo adaptation starring the talented artist, Eddie Izzard. She tackles the 19 characters in the book by herself. Izzard is frequently regarded as one of the nation's funniest and most original comedians. Her comedy special, Dressed to Kill, won two primetime Emmy Awards. She has starred in a number of beloved TV shows and movies, such as The Chronicles of Narnia, Castles in the Sky, and Valkyrie, in addition to comedy and her athletic endeavours. Mark Izzard, the brother of Eddie Izzard, wrote the adaptation for the stage. Selina Cadell directed the play which features set design by Tom Piper and lighting by Tyler Elich. Tom Piper and Libby Da Costa handle costume styling. Didi Hopkins is the movement director, and Eliza Thompson is the composer.
Storyline
Charles Dickens' 19th-century novel represents the economic and educational upheaval that gradually took hold of England's towns and countryside. Dickens wrote it during a period of significant social change in Britain. Pip, a young blacksmith apprentice, sets out on a transformative voyage to London after receiving an unexpected windfall from an unknown donor.
