Groan Ups is an out-and-out comedy sure to make you fall off your seats! The story follows five grown-ups who meet at a school reunion and reminisce about their childhood.
The play is executed by Mischief Theatre, a company founded in 2008 by a group of theatre students who have created a niche for themselves in the printed and improvised comedy genre at West End. Groan Ups is their 5th venture, after receiving much acclaim and success in the field of comedy with their shows The Play That Goes Wrong, and The Comedy About a Bank Robbery, among others.
The play unfurls at a school reunion when 5 grown-ups hitting their 30s meet. The play then explores how their childhood experiences shaped them and their fate as adults. The first half of the play shows these grown-ups meeting at the reunion and the second half shifts to their childhood. Their childhood is also played out by these adults in the second half and everything around them is enlarged to feign a perspective shift. This brave, and bonkers play is a refreshing shift from the crew’s usual brand of physical comedy.
