The award-winning show's cast has been stellar throughout its run on West End and the production is ready to shake things up with newcomer Vasco Emauz as Marty McFly backed by an equally exciting ensemble.
Back to the Future follows a young Marty McFly and his time-traveling shenanigans with a scientist Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown. The West End musical, an adaptation of the original 1985 film starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, opened in 2021 at the Adelphi Theatre and went on to win the Olivier Awards for including Best New Musical and Best Original Score or New Orchestrations the following year.
Any actor who joins this cast notably has some big shoes to fill, seeing as they have to live up to a cult classic film and award-winning stage performances before their own. But recent graduate Vasco Emauz should have no trouble fitting right in his professional and West End debut. After all, he was made for the stage.
In an interview with What's On Stage, Emauz stated he was "excited" but also nervous about taking on the role. "It's such a huge, huge show and it's my first job after college," he stated, also noting that musical theater was the "only thing [he] wanted to do with his life." The actor began his journey into musicals with a love for the piano and a touch of inspiration from the incomparable Idina Menzel and her role in Wicked.
Emauz will join Cory English, who returns as Doc. The rest of the new cast includes Orlando Gibbs as George McFly, CJ Borger as both Goldie Wilson and Marvin Berry, Alex Runicles as Biff Tannen, Talia Palamathanan as Jennifer Parker, Ellis Kirk as alternate Marty McFly, and Liam McHugh as Dave McFly, with Kofi Aidoo-Appiah, Billie Bowman, and Gracie Caine rounding out the ensemble cast.
Additionally, the returning cast members include Sarah Goggin as Lorraine Baines, Lee Ormsby as both Strickland and alternate Doctor Emmett Brown, and Patricia Wilkins as Linda McFly, with several others from the ensemble also reprising their roles.
