Grace Hodgett Young and Dónal Finn to bow out of Hadestown

Shivika

The spectacular leads Grace Hodgett Young and Dónal Finn will be stepping down from the critically acclaimed production of Hadestown at the Lyric Theatre, next month. Young will be New York bound to headline the US premiere of Jamie Lloyd's multi-award-winning Sunset Boulevard, while Finn is expected to return for season three of his hit series The Wheel of Time.

The pair will appear as Eurydice and Orpheus for the final time on August 25, 2024.

Big shoes to fill

On the journey to the underworld, and back, the two actors have brought a sensuous, contemporary edge to the iconic mythological lovers. Alongside Zachary James’s Hades and Gloria Onitiri as Persephone, their performance garnered widespread acclaim.

Hodgett Young's portrayal of Eurydice was lauded for its vulnerability and resilience, while Finn's Orpheus has been praised for having emotional depth. Their near-perfect renditions of the tough score were also met with extensive adoration.

The London production has bagged praise for being “one of the best West End musicals” (The Guardian) around, and the performances of Young and Finn have undoubtedly contributed to the success. Finding replacements who can match their caliber will be no easy feat, but the show’s creative team is sure to rise to the challenge.

Catch Hadestown at the Lyric Theatre, before Grace Hodgett Young and Dónal Finn croon their final song this August.
