Multi-award winner Hadestown announces West End extension till 22 December 2024 in response to demand. Hadestown will open at the Lyric Theatre on 10 February 2024.
The musical has won 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. As a preview to the London premiere, the West End cast of Hadestown delivered an exclusive first UK broadcast performance of the track Wait For Me. The showcase was at the AO Arena in Manchester for the Big Night of Musicals 2024 by the National Lottery, captivating 12,000. The performance will be broadcast on Saturday, 27 January, at 7:50 pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
The talented cast features Dónal Finn as Orpheus, known for his role as Mat Cauthon in Season 2 of Prime's The Wheel of Time, alongside Grace Hodgett Young as Eurydice, Melanie La Barrie as Hermes, Zachary James as Hades and Gloria Onitiri as Persephone. The ensemble includes Bella Brown, Madeline Charlemagne, Allie Daniel, Lauren Azania, Tiago Dhondt Bamberger, Beth Hinton-Lever, Waylon Jacobs, and Christopher Short, with Lucinda Buckley, Winny Herbert, Ryesha Higgs, Miriam Nyarko, and Simon Oskarsson as Swings.
The Original Broadway Cast Recording has achieved over 350 million streams, making it one of the most streamed cast albums ever. The musical, known for its unforgettable journey to the underworld and back, intertwines two mythic love stories: that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone.
The creative team behind Hadestown includes Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, who is responsible for the music, lyrics, and book. Mitchell and Tony Award-winning director Rachel Chavkin transformed the production into a genre-defying musical. The London production features choreography by Obie Award winner David Neumann and scenic design by Tony Award winner Rachel Hauck.
