From the brilliant mind behind the hit musical Anything comes an exciting new production of Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate, set to captivate audiences at the Barbican from June 4 to September 14, 2024, for a strictly limited season.
The multi-award-winning Adrian Dunbar, best known for his role in Line of Duty and Ridley, is headlining the production. Joining him is the Broadway musical superstar and Tony Award Winner Stephanie J. Block, making her West End debut after a string of successes in productions like Into The Woods, The Cher Show, and 9 to 5.
Adding to the star power is Olivier nominee Charlie Stemp, renowned for his performances in Crazy For You and Mary Poppins, taking on the roles of Bill Calhoun/Lucentio. Alongside him is the rising star Georgina Onuorah, known for her roles in The Wizard of Oz and Oklahoma!, portraying Lois Lane/Bianca.
Rounding out the cast are Nigel Lindsay, known for his roles in Victoria and Shrek The Musical, and Hammed Animashaun, whose performances in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Black Ops have garnered critical acclaim.
At the helm of this theatrical extravaganza is director Bartlett Sher, leading a creative team that includes choreographer Anthony Van Laast, set designer Michael Yeargan, costume designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Donald Holder, sound designer Adam Fisher, and music supervisor Stephen Ridley.
Kiss Me, Kate is a sophisticated and ferociously funny show within a show, whisking the audience into a world of backstage chaos and romantic entanglements as a theatre company attempts to put on a production of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. The battle of the sexes takes centre stage as former spouses feud, with off-stage antics rivalling the drama on-stage. Cases of mistaken identity, confused love, gangsters, and a spectacular tap routine add to the chaos and charm of Kiss Me, Kate.
