Standing at the Sky's Edge announces it's West End transfer cast

The upcoming West End transfer of Standing at the Sky's Edge unveiled its initial cast last week. A tribute to Sheffield and the renowned Park Hill Estate, the musical was co-produced by the National Theatre, Sheffield Theatres, and Various Productions. The story examines the lives of three generations over six turbulent decades. The musical, composed by Richard Hawley and written by Chris Bush, received the Olivier Award for Best New Musical earlier this year.

The cast

The cast for the production's run at the Gillian Lynne Theatre includes Elizabeth Ayodele (Small Island) as Joy, Sharlene Hector (A Strange Loop) as Grace,  Mel Lowe (Orlando) as Connie, Joel Harper-Jackson (Cock) as Harry, Laura Pitt-Pulford (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers as Poppy, and Lauryn Redding (Bloody Elle) as Nikki. 

Cast members reprising their roles include Baker Mukasa (The Comedy of Errors) as George, Samuel Jordan (Masters of the Air) as Jimmy, Alastair Natkiel (Line of Duty) as Marcus, and Rachael Wooding (Pretty Woman: The Musical) as Rose. Director Robert Hastie emphasized the significance of casting, noting the fictional characters' representation of real lives. 

The creatives

The creative team features set and costume designer Ben Stones, choreographer Lynne Page, orchestrator Tom Deering, lighting designer Mark Henderson, sound designer Bobby Aitken, and Cynthia De La Rosa overseeing wigs, hair, and make-up. Standing at the Sky's Edge will run at the Gillian Lynne Theatre from 8 February 2024, following the West End run of Crazy for You.
