Thrilling news for theatre fans and cinephiles alike! Steve Coogan, a BAFTA and Academy Award nominee, will be the lead actor in the first-ever stage adaptation of Stanley Kubrick's classic Dr. Strangelove. The highly anticipated production will run from 8 October to 21 December 2024, at the Noël Coward Theatre in the West End.
Steve Coogan will take on the iconic characters Peter Sellers portrayed in the original movie. Among Coogan's many credits are notable parts in Tropic Thunder, the Night at the Museum series, and the highly regarded film Philomena, in which he not only appeared but also co-wrote and produced, resulting in nominations for an Academy Award. Coogan has a long history of creative collaborations with BAFTA and Emmy Award winner Armando Iannucci, including co-creating the enduring Alan Partridge character.
The stage version of Dr. Strangelove was co-adapted by Iannucci, who is well-known for his works Veep, The Death of Stalin, and The Thick of It. Sean Foley, two-time Olivier Award-winner, Tony nominee, and a lead creative on 14 West End shows, co-adapts and directs the production.
