Why watch The 39 Steps?

  • The 39 Steps is coming to the West End as a parody of Alfred Hitchcock's film, packed with physical comedy and witty dialogue.
  • The Crown's Tom Byrne takes on the role of Richard Hannay, while West End favorite, Safeena Ladha (She, The Great Gatsby), plays the roles of Pamela, Annabella, and Margaret.
  • Join Richard Hannay, an ordinary man thrust into a world of spies in this fast-paced whodunnit, previous revivals of which have won 2 Tonys.
  • With a nod to Hitchcock through a silhouette cameo and a shower scene inspired by Psycho's genre-defining scene, the production keeps audiences on the edge of their seats.

Nicola Samer (Harry Potter and The Cursed Child) directs this revival of The 39 Steps, adapting Patrick Barlow's Tony and Drama Desk award-winning adaptation. Barlow's original concept takes inspiration from John Buchan's 1915 novel and Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 film adaptation, weaving them together with a healthy dose of humor. The result is a hilarious, fast-paced production that relies on clever staging and minimal props, called a "genuinely fun" spy thriller by The Reviews Hub. Expect to see the 4-person cast transform into over 150 characters with quick costume changes and witty accents.
