Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, the mastermind behind Mamma Mia!, TINA: The Tina Turner Musical was written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kess Prins. The show features brilliant choreography by Anthony van Laast with set and costume design by Mark Thompson. Aisha Jawando stars as Tina Turner joined by Jammy Kasongo playing her partner Ike.
TINA: The Tina Turner Musical has had a large amount of involvement from Tina Turner herself, who recently proclaimed that working on the musical helped bring her out of retirement. Made with her blessing, the musical features many of her best songs. If you’re familiar with the book written by Katori Hall or a fan of Tina Turner’s music in general, this show is tailor-made for you.
The musical is a deep dive into the triumphant and troubling life of Tina Turner, right from her humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her tumultuous relationship with Ike Turner and her iconic comeback in her 40s. The musical follows Tina’s journey to becoming a superstar coupled with her experience with marital abuse and eventual divorce from her long-time partner and husband Ike Turner. The musical beautifully showcases her knack for overcoming obstacles, a talent that came in handy to help her become a solo rock 'n’ roll star.

Built in 1905, Aldwych Theatre was constructed as a pair of the Novello Theatre by designer W. G. R. Sprague. Despite being constructed together and designed by the same architect, the two theatres were funded and managed by different entities. The theatre has hosted numerous musical comedies in its early years, including the production Blue Bell, which starred Mr. Hicks.
Featuring an Edwardian Baroque style, the Aldwych Theatre is a visual delight. The theatre became renowned for the quality of the shows produced, particularly the series of comedies that played at the theatre starting in 1925.

This show is so full of vigor and great music that we were entirely swept up in it. We were asked not to sing along. (Later we were asked to sing along.) But how could we not? The show does not shy away from questions of racial injustice or spousal or sexual abuse. It really can't, if it's to tell the story. But the matters were handled directly, not written around. There were several audience-wide gasps, especially early in the story. Karis Anderson has an awesome future for herself. Looking back at the 30-something-year-old me, I do not recall ever having a third such energy. One thing that disturbed me had nothing to do with the production. That was that, among the twelve-hundred or so faces, the percentage of non-white faces really didn't even register. My wife and I only made the matter more slanted. I'm reminded of an evening spent at Blue Chicago. The only black faces were on the stage. (If you go to Chicago, Kingston Mines is the place.) All that said, however you identify yourself, please go see this show.
Fantastic show, very good adaptation of Tina's life! Cast out of this world, everyone of them a star!! It was just like watching Tina herself! The
It was a gift! The two visitors to the musical loved it and were almost sad that it was over so quickly. They could have watched it for a while longer!!! The actress Tina Turner was "mega cool" and the theater was just !!!! All in all, the visit was worth every penny!!!
