The Criterion Theatre, an independent venue in London’s West End, is celebrating its 150th year. Since its debut on March 21, 1874, with Henry J. Byron’s comedy An American Lady and W. S. Gilbert and Alfred Cellier’s musical Topseyturveydom, it has staged thousands of productions. Notable shows include Ronald Harwood's Taking Sides and Patrick Barlow’s adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps, directed by Maria Aitkin.
